Hardscaping & Landscaping in the Bay Area
Most construction projects stop at the back door. The yard gets whatever's left in the budget which is usually not much. SGM Builders handles both the interior and exterior, so the whole property gets finished properly.
We do hardscaping and landscaping throughout Hollister, Gilroy, Morgan Hill, and the Bay Area as both standalone projects and as part of larger construction work.
Outdoor Living Spaces Built to Last
The South Bay has some of the best weather in California, and your outdoor space should take full advantage of it. Whether you want a patio for weekend dinners, a pergola that provides shade through the summer, or a complete outdoor living area with a firepit and built-in seating, SGM Builders can make it happen.
We’re a licensed general contractor specializing in hardscaping for homeowners in Hollister, Gilroy, Morgan Hill, Los Gatos, Saratoga, and Los Altos. Our hardscape projects are built on proper foundations with quality materials — because something you’ll use every day for the next 20 years shouldn’t be built to last only five.
Concrete Patios & Walkways
A concrete patio done right lasts decades. Done wrong, it cracks within a few years. The difference is almost always in the prep proper base compaction, correct mix, adequate rebar, appropriate control joints. We do it right the first time.
Stamped concrete, exposed aggregate, broom finish, smooth finish we handle all of it. If you want a specific look, bring photos to the estimate and we’ll tell you what’s achievable.
Landscaping Design & Installation
Beyond the concrete and hardscape elements, we handle planting, drainage solutions, grading, and general landscape installation. If you’ve just completed a construction project and the yard looks like a job site, we can get it finished.
Stucco (Interior & Exterior)
Stucco is still one of the most common exterior finishes in our market, and it requires skill to do well especially when matching existing texture on a repair. We handle new stucco applications and repairs.
what we build
Patios
A well-built patio transforms your backyard into usable living space. We build patios using concrete, pavers, flagstone, and stamped concrete — each with its own look, feel, and price point. We'll help you choose the material that works best for your space, your style, and your budget.
Pergolas & Shade Structures
Hollister and Gilroy summers get hot. A pergola or shade structure extends the hours you can comfortably spend outside. We build custom wood pergolas, aluminum shade structures, and covered patio extensions that integrate with your home's architecture.
Covered Patios
A covered patio gives you outdoor space that works year-round shade in the summer, dry space during winter rain. We build solid-roof covered patios with proper drainage, electrical for fans or lighting, and finish details that match your home.
Concrete Work
Driveways, walkways, retaining walls, and foundation pads. We pour concrete that's properly graded, reinforced, and finished. Stamped concrete is a popular option for homeowners who want the look of stone or brick at a more accessible price point.
Outdoor Living Areas
Some projects go beyond a single feature. If you're envisioning a complete outdoor living space patio, pergola, firepit, built-in seating, outdoor kitchen we can design and build the entire area as a cohesive project.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a permit for a patio or pergola?
It depends on the size and whether the structure is attached to your home. Freestanding patios at grade level often don’t require a permit, but covered structures, elevated decks, and anything attached to the house usually do. We’ll let you know what applies to your project and handle the permit process if needed.
How long does a hardscaping project take?
A basic patio installation typically takes 3 to 7 days. A covered patio or pergola usually takes 1 to 3 weeks. Complete outdoor living area projects can take 4 to 6 weeks depending on scope. Weather can sometimes affect the timeline, especially for concrete work.
What materials do you recommend for the Hollister/Gilroy climate?
For patios, concrete and pavers both perform well in our hot, dry climate. We recommend pavers for homeowners who want design variety and easy repair options. For pergolas, treated wood or aluminum both handle the South Bay weather well aluminum requires less maintenance, while wood gives a warmer, more natural aesthetic.
Can you work with my landscape designer?
Absolutely. We’re happy to collaborate with your landscape architect or designer. We handle the hardscape construction, and they can handle the softscape (plants, irrigation, lighting design) or we can coordinate the entire project if you prefer a single point of contact.
